What is Honeywell building in Tempe, Arizona?
Honeywell Aerospace, October 28, 2026. The newly independent aerospace company will build a $500 million, 300,000-square-foot manufacturing plant on its Tempe campus, near its Phoenix headquarters. The key details from the release:
- Jobs: about 600 over time, plus more than 1,000 local jobs during construction.
- Timing: opening in late 2028.
- What it does: it brings complex machining, which Honeywell calls "a key area of the supply base that is currently constrained", in-house. The plant will make next-generation products such as its Assure actuation systems and Attune vapor-cycle cooling subsystems.
- Why now: the company cites $15 billion in new Control Systems program wins and a supplier framework agreement with the Defense Department signed in March.
- How: modular robotics, automated inspection and digital twins.
"Arizona has been at the heart of our innovation and manufacturing operations for decades," CEO Jim Currier said.

How big is Hyundai's new investment in Alabama?
Office of Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, October 28, 2026. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) will invest nearly $450 million to expand its Montgomery plant. The governor's office lists a capital investment of $412,885,541 and 53 new full-time jobs paying an average of $30.03 an hour ($62,467 a year).
- Engines: expanded production, including hybrid engines and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) technology.
- Vehicles: the plant will be prepared for the all-new Tucson, including hybrid versions, and the refreshed Santa Fe.
- Scale: HMMA employs 4,200 people. Including this project, it has invested nearly $2.2 billion since production began in 2005. The state says the plant and its suppliers have an economic impact of more than $5 billion a year.

Why did Brose Sitech choose South Carolina for its first U.S. plant?
Office of South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, October 28, 2026. Its biggest new customer is there. Brose Sitech makes complete car seats, seat structures and other seat parts. It has its global headquarters in Poland and its regional office in Detroit. The company will invest $29.5 million and create 330 jobs at a 140,000-square-foot site in the Scout Supplier Park in Blythewood, Richland County. It will deliver complete seat sets "just in time" to the new Scout Motors plant next door, and operations are expected to start in 2027.
Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh called it the first payoff from the on-site supplier park the company announced last year. It's the same pattern we saw with Audi's plans in Georgia: when a carmaker builds a U.S. assembly plant, its suppliers tend to follow it here.

What does Edwards Vacuum's New York plant make?
Office of New York Governor Kathy Hochul, October 29, 2026, and WXXI News, October 28, 2026. Edwards Vacuum, a British company that is part of the Atlas Copco Group, finished building its $319 million dry pump factory. The site is in the Western New York Science & Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park (STAMP), in the town of Alabama, Genesee County. Dry pumps control the ultra-clean environment inside chip factories, so the plant links New York to the semiconductor supply chain.
- Capacity: a 240,000-square-foot campus able to build 10,000 dry pumps a year.
- Jobs and incentives: Empire State Development awarded up to $21 million in performance-based tax credits in exchange for up to 600 jobs, plus $1 million for workforce training.
- Power: a 4.9-megawatt allocation of low-cost Niagara hydropower from the New York Power Authority.
WXXI reported that Edwards is STAMP's first operating tenant after nearly 20 years. Plug Power scrapped its project at the park earlier this year, and the Seneca Nation and environmental groups have filed lawsuits over the site.

What is Hydro building in Cressona, Pennsylvania?
Hydro, October 28, 2026. On October 27, the Norwegian aluminum company started building a 5,900-tonne indirect extrusion press at its Cressona plant. The $53.5 million line replaces equipment from the 1950s and is expected to start running in the first quarter of 2028. The plant was built by the U.S. government in 1942, and Hydro calls it the largest aluminum extrusion site in the Western Hemisphere. It has more than 1,200 employees and nine presses.
Hydro also had a warning. The company has nearly 6,000 U.S. employees at 19 sites in 14 states and plans to invest more than $800 million here over five years. It said extrusion presses and other specialized equipment made only in Europe face "elevated and frequently changing tariffs" that raise costs for U.S. factories.
Pennsylvania still makes plenty of everyday goods: USA Pan bakeware in Crescent, Crayola crayons in Easton and Zippo lighters in Bradford. See the best products made in Pennsylvania.
What do this week's announcements mean for shoppers?
None of these projects will put a new product on store shelves this year. Honeywell opens in late 2028, Hydro's press starts in 2028, and Brose's seats go into Scout vehicles starting in 2027. Edwards' pumps and Hydro's extrusions end up inside other companies' factories, not shopping carts. What the week does show is where new factory money is going: aerospace and defense, vehicles and chips. Even a U.S. investment can depend on imported machinery, as Hydro's tariff warning shows.
